- Flying Officer John Wheatley Goldsmith Potter, 612 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Listed on the Greenhithe War Memorial but possibly only since his mother grew up in Greenhithe and had returned there. Died 27.3.42, aged 25, when his Armstrong Whitworth Whitley reconnaissance aircraft was shot down during a mission to Brest. Buried in Roscanvel Communal Cemetery, France, and commemorated on the Greenhithe War Memorial.
