- Ordinary Seaman Thomas Frederick Charles Redsell, HMS Willamette Valley, Royal Navy. Lived at 20 Larch Road, Dartford. Died 29.6.40, aged 21, when HMS Willamette Valley, a covertly armed merchant ship designed to lure submarines to attack it, was torpedoed and sunk by an unseen German U-boat. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
