- Leading Stoker Leslie Leonard Russell, HMS Charybdis, Royal Navy. He had grown up in Dartford and his parents still lived at 52 St Vincent’s Road. Died 23.10.43, aged 28, when HMS Charybdis was sunk in the English Channel by German torpedo boats escorting the German blockade-runner Münsterland in an engagement known as the Battle of Sept-Ȋles. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
