- Petty Officer Stoker Cyril Arnfield Sheldon, BEM, HM Submarine Triumph, Royal Navy. Lived at 4 Watchgate, Lane End. Died 9.1.42, aged 36, when HM Submarine Triumph was lost in the Aegean Sea apparently having suffered an internal torpedo detonation. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial and on the Darenth Church Memorial Tablet.
