- Trooper Cameron John Shepherd, 44th (7th Battalion, The Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment) Regiment, Reconnaissance Corps. He had grown up at 124 Lower Hythe Street but, following his marriage in 1930, was later living at 7 Larch Road and may have joined his wife at her parents at 26 Banbury Villas, Hook Green Road, Southfleet by 1939. Died 16.9.43, aged 32, killed in Italy in an explosion when his Bren Gun Carrier was hit. Buried in Salerno War Cemetery, Italy and commemorated on the Southfleet Second World War Memorial Plaque.
