- Petty Officer Steward William Frank Edgar Sheppard, HMS Neptune, Royal Navy. His wife and daughter lived with her mother at 24 St Mary’s Road, Stone, Dartford. Died 19.12.41, aged 30, when HMS Neptune hit four mines and sank off the coast of Libya. Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
