- Fireman and Trimmer Edward Charles Sims, SS Manchester Merchant, Merchant Navy. Lived at 2 Station Road, Longfield. Died 25.2.43, aged 18, when SS Manchester Merchant was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat off Newfoundland. Commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial and on the Longfield War Memorial.
