- Sergeant (Air Bomber) Alfred Burford Sleep, 90 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Lived at Weirdwood, New Barn, Longfield. Died 30.8.44, aged 32, when his Lancaster bomber crashed close to base on its return from a raid on Stettin. Commemorated in Golders Green Crematorium and on the Southfleet Second World War Memorial Plaque.
