- Flying Officer (Pilot) Lawrence Arthur Smith, DFC, 610 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He had lived with his parents at 97 Birchwood Road, Wilmington, Dartford, prior to his marriage. Died 10.2.43, aged 22, when his Spitfire crashed in France. Buried in Bayeux War Cemetery, France, and commemorated on the Wilmington War Memorial.
