- Sergeant (Flight Engineer) Dennis Bernard Neil Stanes, 76 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Lived at 98 Birchwood Road, Wilmington, Dartford. Died 25.4.45, aged 20, when his Halifax bomber collided with another during a mission to attack German gun positions on the Frisian island of Wangerooge, Germany. Buried in Sage War Cemetery, Niedersachsen, Germany, and commemorated on the Wilmington War Memorial. His brother Henry George Stanes died on 9.7.44.
