- Sergeant (Pilot) Thomas John Alfred Stevens, 1 Wing, Glider Pilot Regiment/ Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He had previously lived with his parents at 24 Nelson Road, Dartford, prior to the family moving to the Canterbury area, but was due to marry a lady in Shepherds Lane in June. Died 24.3.45, aged 22, during Operation Varsity, an airborne mission to capture territory on the far side of the Rhine to clear the way for ground troops entering western Germany. Buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany, and commemorated on the Harbledown War Memorial and on the Dartford Grammar School In Memoriam Panel.
