- Major Leslie Eric Sheldon Stokes, OBE, 53 Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery. He had grown up in Southfleet, where his parents had lived at 4 Warren Cottages and Olive Cottage, but he had since lived in Lambeth and finally Shropshire. Died 11.3.41, aged 47, gunshot wound to head. Buried in St Nicholas’ Churchyard, Southfleet.
