- Lance-Bombardier Hubert Sidney Thomas, 195 Battery, 65 Light AA Regiment, Royal Artillery. Lived at 35 Acacia Road, Stone, Dartford. Died 19.1.42, aged 33, when the Norwegian freighter Thermopylae, which was transporting men and guns from his regiment, was sunk off the North African coast by bombs from a German aircraft. Commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
