- Able Seaman Frederick Turrell, HMS Curacoa, Royal Navy. He had grown up in Dartford and his parents still lived at 16 Hawthorn Road. Died 2.10.42, aged 24, when HMS Curacoa was sliced in two by the ocean liner RMS Queen Mary which it was escorting. Commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
