- Flight Sergeant William Charles Tassell, 159 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. After meeting while both living in Hextable, his wife, and presumably Tassell himself, lived at 99 Denver Road, Dartford, although he was actually from Snodland. Died 7.4.43, aged 35, when his Liberator bomber failed to return from dropping flares along the Arakan Coast, Burma (now Myanmar). Commemorated on the Singapore Memorial and on the Snodland Cenotaph.
