- Sergeant (Air Gunner) Thomas Arthur Bird, 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Lived in South Darenth but worked at Dartford Paper Mills. Died 8.4.43, aged 20, when his Lancaster bomber was shot down by flak during a raid on Duisburg. Buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany.
