- Engineer Officer Frank Stevens Broad, MV Innisdhu, Merchant Navy. Lived in Strood but previously with his parents at 30 Park Road, Swanscombe. Died 20.9.40, aged 26, when MV Innisdhu hit a mine in the Thames Estuary. Buried in St James Churchyard, Isle of Grain and commemorated on the Greenhithe War Memorial.
