- Private William Carey, 1st Battalion, The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment). His parents lived at 44 Watchgate Rise (now Ridgeway), Lane End. Died 26.3.42, aged 25, cause unknown. Buried in El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt, and commemorated on the Darenth Church Memorial Tablet. Brother of Dangerfield Carey who died 17.3.44.
