Wilmot Park

Wilmot Park actively contributes to Dartford Borough Council's overarching biodiversity net gain project. As part of this significant endeavour, a dedicated wildflower meadow and orchard have been thoughtfully established in an enclosed area situated alongside the railway side of the expansive recreational field.

This collaborative effort aligns with similar projects implemented across various parks within the borough, collectively working to enhance pollination corridors throughout Dartford.

In the meticulous creation of the wildflower meadow, the ground underwent turf rolling to facilitate the establishment of a freshly seeded seed mix, free from competition with the already well-established grasses. This approach not only promises enduring soil improvements but also nurtures a high-quality habitat with notable carbon capture capabilities. Additionally, it serves as a year-round sanctuary for insects, supporting stable population levels.

The park's innate beauty doesn't just contribute to the aesthetic appeal but has been scientifically demonstrated to positively impact the well-being of park visitors. Furthermore, the orchard trees yield delectable fruit that can be picked and savoured during the late summer and early autumn months.

While enjoying the fruit, please be considerate of others and leave any surplus for fellow park goers to relish.
